The Bullock Hotel on the corner of Main and Wall, opened in 1896, is the grandest of Deadwood's surviving Victorian buildings. Seth Bullock built it after his hardware store burned, and the three-storey sandstone front, ornate cornice and tall double-hung windows are essentially original.
Inside, the lobby and grand staircase have been carefully restored, and the bar is one of the more atmospheric places in town for a drink. The hotel claims to be haunted by Bullock's ghost — staff and guests have reported objects moving and the unmistakable smell of cigar smoke — and the upper floors are inevitably part of any of the town's ghost tours.
