Centennial Park

A 132-acre Victorian-era park on West End Avenue, immediately east of Vanderbilt University, with a large lake, walking paths, a band shell, and the full-scale Parthenon replica at its centre. The park was the site of Tennessee's centennial exposition in 1897 — the Parthenon was originally a temporary exhibition building — and most of the park's mature trees date from the same period.

Locust Park, the small wooded section at the north-west corner, is one of the prettiest urban green corners in the city. Musicians Corner, a free open-air concert series, runs in the band shell on Saturday afternoons in May, June, September, and October. The park is busy at weekends with joggers, students, and (a Nashville running joke) wedding photographers.
