Bars and Cafes

Dallas has a drinking scene to match its outsized personality, from upscale cocktail lounges to rowdy dive bars. Deep Ellum and Lower Greenville are the liveliest strips, but every neighborhood has its local favorites.

The Lizard Lounge

One of Dallas' most popular nightclubs, the Lizard Lounge at 2424 Swiss Avenue draws a young crowd with electric dance music, hip hop, alternative and goth acts every weekend. Dress is casual to punk. Open Thursday through Sunday from 9pm to 4am, with tickets averaging $10 to $20. Those 18 and up can see the show, but only 21+ at the bar, where cocktails and shots run $4 to $7 with no cover charge.

The Library Bar

At 3015 Oak Lawn Avenue inside the Warwick Melrose Hotel, the Library Bar is partnered with the Landmark Restaurant. Plush chairs, soft jazz, and a quiet atmosphere make it ideal for a nightcap or a solo evening. Wines, beer, and cocktails run $3 to $9. Open seven days a week.

Dallas Theater Center

For a more low-key evening, catch a play at the Dallas Theater Center on 3920 Black Gold Drive. The stage extends into the audience for an immersive experience, with shows ranging from modern drama to family-friendly musicals. Tickets run $15 to $78, with student and senior discounts.
