Dallas is big, bold, and unapologetic about it. The second-largest city in Texas and seventh-largest in the US, it has the skyline, the sports teams, and the shopping to back up its swagger. This is the birthplace of Neiman Marcus, home to the Dallas Cowboys, Mavericks, and Stars, and a city where people dress up just to go to the grocery store.
But Dallas is more than flash. Deep Ellum pulses with live music and street art. The Arts District downtown is one of the largest in the country. And the food scene has evolved well beyond steakhouses, though you should still eat a good steak while you are here.
Summers are punishing, with temperatures hovering around 100 degrees Fahrenheit, but Texans have adapted. From the West End to Uptown to Lower Greenville, the bars and restaurants keep the city alive well past dark. Southern hospitality is real here, and the locals mean it when they say "y'all come back."
