Houston Zoo sits inside Hermann Park, next to the Museum District and the METRORail line. It is a large, busy family attraction with strong tropical and aquatic exhibits, plus popular areas for gorillas, elephants, and other large animals.
Go early if you can. Keeper talks and animal activity are usually better before the day gets hot, and the zoo pairs easily with the Japanese Garden, McGovern Lake, or the museums just north of the park.
