Tony Grove Lake

Tony Grove Lake is the most rewarding destination in Logan Canyon: a high alpine lake in a limestone cirque at 8,050 feet, reached via a 7-mile side road off US-89. The lake is surrounded by forest and ringed by wildflowers in July, with the Naomi Peak massif rising to the south. It is one of the more accessible alpine lake environments in northern Utah.

From the Tony Grove trailhead, the hike to Naomi Peak (9,980 feet) is about 6 miles round trip with 1,700 feet of elevation gain — a full half-day. Easier walks around the lake shore are possible for those wanting scenery without the climb. The area is in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest and is busy on summer weekends; arrive early to secure a parking spot.

A story
Tony Grove Lake sits in a glacially carved cirque at 8,050 feet, surrounded by limestone cliffs and old-growth forest of Engelmann spruce and subalpine fir. The lake is cold enough that few people swim in it, but the clarity of the water — you can see the bottom in 20 feet — and the reflection of the cliffs make it one of the finest alpine lakes in Utah. The trailhead here is also the main access point for the summit of Naomi Peak, the highest point in the Bear River Range.
