A paved multi-use trail following the Ogden River from the mouth of Ogden Canyon west through the city, the Ogden River Parkway is one of those urban green corridors that makes a city dramatically more liveable. The path runs about three miles and connects several parks, a nature centre, botanical gardens, and the dinosaur park along the way. It is flat, well maintained, and open to walkers, cyclists, and joggers.
On summer mornings the parkway is busy but not crowded, and the contrast between the canyon's narrow gorge and the open floodplain parks below it captures something essential about Ogden — mountains and city compressed into a small space. The Ogden Botanical Gardens near the east end are worth a look in spring and early summer, and the Fort Buenaventura State Park reconstructed trading post sits just north of the main trail.
