Sundance Mountain Resort

Sundance Mountain Resort is Robert Redford's eco-conscious ski resort in Provo Canyon — intentionally small, deliberately uncommercialized, and set against a backdrop of Mount Timpanogos that is hard to beat. In winter, two ski lifts access about 450 acres of terrain suitable for beginners through advanced skiers. The focus is on quality of experience rather than quantity of runs.

In summer, Sundance runs an outdoor theatre season, a summer concert series, and hiking and mountain bike trails. The Sundance Film Festival is based in Park City, not here, but the resort maintains its connection to film and arts programming year-round. The restaurants and lodge are noticeably better than what you find at most Utah mountain resorts.

A story
Robert Redford bought the Sundance ski area in 1969 specifically because it was small, uncrowded, and had a deliberate policy against commercial development. He has maintained that character for over 50 years, keeping the resort limited in scale and environmentally minded. It is the polar opposite of Park City: less groomed, less crowded, and considerably more interesting to look at.
