Provo divides neatly between seasons. Summer (June–August) is ideal for Provo Canyon hiking, Mount Timpanogos, and Utah Lake. Temperatures are warm to hot in the valley (30–38°C) but cooler at elevation. The canyon and mountain trails are at their best from mid-July through September.
Winter brings skiing at Sundance Mountain Resort, which is less crowded and more affordable than the Park City resorts. Snow in the valley is common from December through February, but the roads are generally well-maintained.
Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) are shoulder seasons with good hiking weather and smaller crowds on the trails. Autumn colour in Provo Canyon — the aspens turning gold on the slopes above — is underappreciated and genuinely beautiful.
