Gallivan Center

Address 239 South Main Street

The John W. Gallivan Center is a small downtown plaza built in the 1980s as a counter to the failure of mid-century urban renewal — a pocket of green and water-features at street level in the middle of the office district. The plaza hosts the Twilight Concert Series in summer, weekly farmers markets, and a popular outdoor ice rink in winter (December to February).

The "Asteroid Landed Softly" sculpture in the centre of the plaza — a 9-foot bronze meteor balanced on a stone — is a defining downtown landmark. The plaza is the easiest place to find a sit-and-coffee moment in central downtown.
