Park City

Park City lies 30 miles east of Salt Lake City through Parley's Canyon on I-80, sitting at 7,000 feet in the Wasatch Back. It hosted several events for the 2002 Winter Olympics and is now home to the Utah Olympic Park (a museum and active training facility) and two major ski resorts: Park City Mountain and Deer Valley. It is also the annual home of the Sundance Film Festival each January.

The historic Main Street has been well preserved from the silver mining era — Park City was one of the wealthiest mining towns in the West in the late nineteenth century — and the restaurants and shops are more sophisticated than most ski towns. The drive from Salt Lake City takes about 30 minutes and the altitude difference makes it noticeably cooler in summer, making it a pleasant day trip when the valley floor is hot.
