Tower Theatre

Address 876 East 900 South

The Tower Theatre, a small Art-Deco cinema built in 1928 on the corner of 9th & 9th, is Salt Lake's flagship art-house movie theatre. Run by the Salt Lake Film Society as a non-profit, it shows independent films, documentaries, foreign-language releases, and the better midnight programming.

The single-screen auditorium has been carefully restored to its 1928 appearance, with original mouldings and a neon-lit marquee. During the Sundance Film Festival in January, the Tower is one of the main Salt Lake screening venues — typically showing the festival's documentary programme. Even without a film, the building's exterior is a 9th & 9th landmark.
