Bryce Canyon is the obvious extension to a Zion trip — an hour and a half east through the Mount Carmel Tunnel, with a wildly different landscape of pink-and-white hoodoos. Plan a long day or, better, an overnight. Kanab is sixty miles east, smaller and quieter than Springdale, and the base for permits to the Wave at Coyote Buttes. St George is the nearest sizeable city, useful for resupplies and a different look at the southern Utah landscape on the way to or from Las Vegas.
