Springdale is a tiny town at the mouth of Zion Canyon, existing almost entirely as the gateway to Zion National Park. The park's sheer red-and-white sandstone cliffs rise straight up from the valley floor, and the main canyon is accessible by shuttle bus from Springdale's doorstep.
Zion covers 229 square miles of cliff-and-canyon landscape, including one of the world's largest natural arches — Kolob Arch, with a span of about 94 metres. The park's signature hikes range from the paved Riverside Walk to the chain-assisted climb up Angels Landing and the technical slot canyon of The Narrows. Mule deer, golden eagles, and mountain lions all inhabit the park.
