Zion Human History Museum

Small park museum on the Mormon settlement and the Anasazi predecessors

A small but well-presented museum at the second shuttle stop inside the park, focused on human history rather than geology. Exhibits cover the Ancestral Puebloan and Southern Paiute peoples who lived in and around the canyon for centuries before European contact; the Mormon settlement of the 1860s under Isaac Behunin; and the establishment of the national monument in 1909 and the national park in 1919.

The 22-minute introductory film, shown on a loop, is one of the better park orientations in the United States. A terrace at the back of the building is set up specifically to view the Towers of the Virgin at sunrise. Free with park admission. Allow an hour.
