Palisade State Park

The reservoir at Palisade began as a 19th-century irrigation project and is now the centrepiece of one of Utah's quieter state parks. The lake is small but well suited to swimming, trout fishing and paddleboarding — rentals are available at the park — and the cottonwood trees along the shore give it a shaded, unhurried feel that is rare in this part of the desert west.

The park's 9-hole golf course is widely regarded as one of the prettiest in Utah: a compact, well-maintained layout that rewards the less serious golfer and is reasonably priced by any standard. The campground has standard and electric hook-up sites, and there are a handful of rental cabins for those who want a roof. Facilities include restrooms, a small marina and a boat ramp.

The park is open approximately April to October; call ahead in shoulder months. Day-use fees apply.
