Natural Bridge

Massive limestone arch and state park in the Shenandoah Valley, an easy day trip from Lynchburg.

Natural Bridge is a 215-foot limestone arch spanning Cedar Creek, long treated as one of Virginia's signature natural landmarks. The arch is now protected as the centrepiece of Natural Bridge State Park, where a short trail follows the creek below the span and continues toward small cascades and forested ravine scenery.

It is a straightforward day trip from Lynchburg and pairs well with the Blue Ridge Parkway or Lexington. The main path is easy, but the setting feels more dramatic than the modest walking distance suggests: the rock walls close in, the arch towers overhead, and the old road crossing above gives the formation a strange mix of natural and human history.
