When to Go

Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) are the best times — comfortable temperatures, good foliage, and lower crowds than the peak summer season. Summers are hot and humid, and July and August see the highest visitor numbers, particularly from families with school-age children. Colonial Williamsburg runs special holiday programmes around Thanksgiving and Christmas that are popular for themed atmosphere.

The Historic Triangle and Colonial Williamsburg are essentially year-round destinations; the mild Virginia winters mean most outdoor activities remain viable, and winter is the quietest and cheapest period.
