Salumi is a legendary Pioneer Square institution: a small cured meat shop and sandwich counter founded by Armandino Batali (father of Mario) in 1999. The shop makes its own salami, prosciutto, and other cured meats in-house, and at lunchtime serves some of the best sandwiches in Seattle. The lamb salami and the house porchetta are the things to order.
The catch is the hours: Salumi is open Tuesday through Friday for lunch only, roughly 11am to 3pm, and the queue regularly extends down the block. The space is cramped, the tables are communal, and there is no dinner service. None of this has reduced its popularity. This is a place worth planning your schedule around.
