Seattle takes coffee more seriously than almost anywhere in the world, which creates a useful problem: the original Starbucks at Pike Place is now a tourist attraction rather than a useful cafe, and the quality of independent coffee has so far outpaced the chain that the city operates as two separate coffee cultures. The independent scene is centered on Capitol Hill and the University District. For bars, Capitol Hill and Fremont are the neighbourhoods; the live music venues are scattered throughout both.
