Long Point Trail

An easy 3-mile out-and-back to the best frontal view of the bridge.

For the postcard photograph of the New River Gorge Bridge from below, Long Point is the place. The trail leaves from a small parking lot on the southwest side of town, runs three flat miles through hardwoods, and ends on an open rocky promontory in the middle of the gorge with the full bridge framed at eye level.

About 90 minutes round trip at an easy pace. The trail is wide and well-graded — suitable for older children and a popular trail-running route. Get there early on summer weekends; the small parking area fills up.
