Heart Mountain Interpretive Center

Powerful museum at the site of the Heart Mountain Japanese American confinement camp.

Heart Mountain Interpretive Center is one of the most important stops near Cody, and it is not light sightseeing. The museum stands at the site where more than 14,000 Japanese Americans were confined during the Second World War after being forced from the West Coast.

The exhibits are clear, personal, and hard to dismiss. They cover the camp, the families held there, the draft resistance movement, and the constitutional damage done in the name of wartime security. Leave enough time; this is a place to read, listen, and sit with.
