Old Trail Town

Old Trail Town is an open-air museum of authentic frontier structures relocated from across Wyoming and Montana over several decades. The collection was assembled starting in the 1960s by archaeologist Bob Edgar, who moved the buildings piece by piece to Cody rather than let them rot in place. The result is an unusually coherent set of original log cabins, saloons, trapper's shacks, and outbuildings from the 1870s–1890s, displayed with their original contents in situ.

The highlights include a cabin documented as having been used by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid as a hideout, and the graves of several frontier figures — trappers, scouts, and outlaws — relocated here from across the region. The whole thing is unpretentious and the admission is modest. It sits just west of downtown near the rodeo grounds and takes about an hour to walk through properly.
