Municipal Museum of Fine Arts

The Museo Municipal de Bellas Artes has a solid permanent collection of Argentine art from the 19th and 20th centuries, with work by some of the country's most important painters and sculptors. The building is an attractive early 20th-century structure near the central plaza.

The collection focuses on Argentine realism and impressionism, with particular strength in landscapes of the Pampas and Patagonia. Temporary exhibitions tend to feature regional contemporary artists. Admission is free or nominal, and the museum is generally uncrowded — you get the paintings largely to yourself, which is a pleasure.
