Getting There

La Plata is just over 60 kilometres southeast of Buenos Aires, making it one of the most accessible day trips from the capital. The most comfortable option is the Ferrobaires train from Constitución station in Buenos Aires, which takes about an hour and runs several times a day — cheap and reliable, and the ticket can be bought at the station. Buses (from the Retiro bus terminal) also run frequently and take 1–1.5 hours depending on traffic.

By car from Buenos Aires, take Autopista La Plata (Route 1) southeast. The journey takes 45–60 minutes without traffic. Driving into the city centre is straightforward; the street grid is easy to navigate, though parking can be scarce near the cathedral on weekends. There is no direct flight to La Plata; Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires is the nearest point of entry.
