Puerto Madryn is worth timing around wildlife. Southern right whales are the headline from June to December, with July to September especially good for shore sightings at El Doradillo. Penguins are best from September to March, while sea lions are present year-round at Punta Loma, with pups in summer.
Summer brings warmer beach weather but also more visitors and wind. Winter is colder and quieter, and the bay can feel bleak, but it is the season when the whales turn the place into something extraordinary.
