Tupiza sits in red rock country in the far south, the landscape Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid died in — at San Vicente, four hours north, in 1908.
It is horse country, and the agencies here ride out into the Quebrada de Palala and the Valle de los Machos. It is also the other end of the Uyuni circuit: four-day tours run from here up to the salt flat, in the opposite direction from everybody else.
