Getting There

From Argentina. The border crossing at La Quiaca–Villazón is the main route from Argentina. Several buses run daily from Villazón to Tupiza.

From the north. The most comfortable option in Bolivia is the train from Oruro to Villazón, which stops at Tupiza. Buses from La Paz and Oruro are cheaper but slower, and a long stretch of the road is unpaved.

From the east. Buses from Tarija make the journey on a rough mountain road. Take a daytime departure if you can — the scenery is worth seeing, and the road is not one you want to experience in the dark.
