The town's main square is a modest affair — a clock tower, a few trimmed conifers, benches around the perimeter, and the church of San Felipe de Jesús facing the open side. The plaza fills up briefly in the early evening, when residents come out to walk before dinner and street vendors set up with anticucho and salteñas.
If you have a couple of hours to fill while waiting for an overnight bus, the plaza is the best place in town to sit, watch traffic, and adjust to the altitude. The clock tower is a small but striking landmark, visible from most of the town's central blocks.
