By air: Joya Andina Airport (UYU) has daily flights from La Paz with Boliviana de Aviación, taking around an hour. The terminal is basic but functional, and a short taxi ride from town.
By train: The Expreso del Sur and Wara Wara del Sur trains run between Oruro and Uyuni several times a week, continuing south to Tupiza and Villazón on the Argentine border. The trip from Oruro takes around seven hours and is one of the few comfortable long-distance train rides left in South America. Tickets sell out — book ahead at the station or through a travel agency.
By bus: Overnight buses connect Uyuni with La Paz (10–12 hours), Sucre (8 hours), Potosí (4–5 hours), and Tupiza (5 hours). The road is now paved most of the way to Potosí, though the Altiplano nights can be brutally cold.
From Chile: Many travellers reach Uyuni at the end of a multi-day jeep tour starting from San Pedro de Atacama, crossing into Bolivia at Hito Cajón near Laguna Verde.
