Getting Around

Goiânia is a car-oriented city — it was planned in the 1930s well before urban mass transit was a design consideration, and the radiating avenues are wide and fast-moving. Getting between the main neighbourhoods on foot is often impractical. Taxis are plentiful and inexpensive by international standards; ride-hailing apps (Uber, 99) work well and are the easiest way to move around the city.

The city has a bus network that covers the main corridors reasonably well, and an integrated bus rapid transit (BRT) system called the METROBUS operates on dedicated lanes along several key routes. The BRT is efficient and cheap but requires some patience with route mapping. Cycling infrastructure has expanded considerably in recent years; a number of protected bike lanes connect the central parks and the Setor Marista area.

For day trips, the main bus terminal (Rodoviária) is centrally located and well-organised, with frequent departures to Goiás Velho, Trindade, Caldas Novas, and Brasília.
