Teatro Goiânia

Art Deco theatre from Goiânia's planned-city era and a key downtown cultural landmark.

Teatro Goiânia is one of the clearest cultural landmarks from the city's early planned-capital period. Its Art Deco lines fit the wider downtown ensemble, when Goiânia was being built as a modern inland capital rather than growing slowly from a colonial core.

If there is a performance on, that is the best way to experience it. Otherwise, the exterior still belongs on an architectural walk through the centre, especially alongside Praça Cívica and the other buildings that show how strongly Goiânia wanted to look forward in the 1930s and 1940s.
