Eating Out

Pirenópolis has a good restaurant scene for a town its size, driven in large part by the weekend influx from Brasília, which brings an expectation of quality that a purely local clientele might not sustain. The local Goiano cuisine features small-farm pork, rice with pequi (an aromatic yellow cerrado fruit), galinhada (chicken rice stew), and pamonha (corn paste in corn husk), all of which appear on menus throughout town.

The cobblestone streets around the main square and along the Rua do Lazer have the best concentration of restaurants. Most close on weekday lunchtimes when visitor numbers drop. On weekends the best places fill up; reservations are wise for dinner.
