Praia de Taipe

Taipe is where the crowds disappear. The beach is long, the cliffs taller and more dramatic than at Pitinga, and the development thins to almost nothing — a few rustic barracas and a sand path leading inland to a small freshwater lagoon set among trees. Many people swim in the sea and rinse off in the lagoon afterwards.

You can walk here from Pitinga in roughly thirty minutes along the sand at low tide; at high tide the route is partly blocked and you'll need the inland path. It's worth the effort: this is the closest thing Arraial has to a wild beach, and the sunset light on the cliffs is exceptional.
