Araçaipe is the beach closest to the ferry landing and the first sand most arrivals see. The bay is calm and shallow because of an offshore reef, which makes it good for families and for paddling rather than serious swimming. At low tide the exposed reef reveals small pools full of fish and crabs.
It's quieter than the southern beaches and tends to attract local families rather than tourists. A scatter of barracas serves grilled prawns and cold beer. At sunset it faces the right way to see the sun drop behind the river mouth and the silhouettes of Porto Seguro on the far side.
