The Church of Our Lady of Mercy (Igreja Nossa Senhora das Mercês) is a colonial baroque church near the Pátio square in João Pessoa's historic centre. Like several of the old town's churches, it dates to the seventeenth century and went through various phases of reconstruction and embellishment over the years. The simple whitewashed facade belies a decorative interior with gilded woodwork and azulejo tilework.
The church stands near the Praça João Pessoa and is most easily visited alongside the nearby Cathedral and São Francisco complex in a single walk through the historic quarter.
