A former 19th-century prison converted into a crafts market, its three radial wings of small cells now occupied by stalls selling lace, leatherwork, hammocks, ceramics, woodcarvings, and the small painted figurines from the Pernambuco interior.
It is touristy but not tacky, and the quality of the regional crafts is high. Allow an hour, and bring small notes — bargaining is expected. Closes early on Sundays.
