Co-Cathedral of São Pedro dos Clérigos

Often called simply the Co-Cathedral of Recife, this 18th-century church sits behind a small plaza of restored colonial townhouses in the São José district. The facade is a textbook example of Brazilian baroque — twin towers, curved pediment, and a richly carved stone portal.

Inside, a painted wooden ceiling and a baroque main altar reward a short visit. The little Pátio de São Pedro just outside the church is one of the most photogenic squares in the historic centre and a regular venue for evening music.
