The Feira da Manaus Moderna is the wholesale market that wakes the city before sunrise. Spread along the river just east of the Mercado Adolpho Lisboa, hundreds of stalls and small open-fronted shops sell fish landed overnight, jungle fruits brought in by boat, sacks of farinha de mandioca, açaí pulp by the kilo, herbs and roots for natural medicine, and live chickens.
Come at dawn for the real spectacle — boats unloading directly onto the embankment as buyers crowd around. The market continues at a slower pace through the morning, with prepared food stalls serving cheap breakfasts of fried fish and tacacá. Watch your belongings.
