Bento Gonçalves is best treated as a small wine-country base rather than a museum town. Spend most of your time outside the centre: a winery or two in Vale dos Vinhedos, a slow meal along Caminhos de Pedra, and, if the timing works, the tourist steam train through Garibaldi and Carlos Barbosa.
