Guaratuba has twenty-two kilometres of open Atlantic beach, stretching south from the bar of the bay all the way to the border with Santa Catarina state. The central stretch is the busiest and most built up; the further south you go — toward Brejatuba and Coroados — the quieter and emptier it gets. The bay side has no real surf beaches but plenty of mangrove-fringed coves used for swimming and boating.
