Cabaraquara Oyster Farms

On the south shore of Guaratuba bay, about twenty minutes' drive from town, the cluster of small oyster farms at Cabaraquara is one of the best simple eating experiences on the ParanĂ¡ coast. A dozen family-run operations grow oysters on wooden racks in the calm bay water, and most have a few plastic tables and chairs on the shore where you can sit with a beer and eat them straight out of the water — opened in front of you, lemon, hot sauce.

The classic is two dozen on a plate, but most places also do steamed mussels, fried fish and crab. Sunday afternoons in summer are extremely busy with Curitibanos; go on a weekday for a quieter table with the same food.
