Itajaí is well-placed for the Santa Catarina coast. Balneário Camboriú with its high-rises and tourist beaches is just across the headland to the south (15 minutes by car). Florianópolis and its 40-odd beaches is 90 minutes south on the BR-101. The German-Brazilian town of Blumenau, with its breweries and October beer festival, is 50 km inland up the Itajaí-Açu valley.
