Museu Histórico de Itajaí

The municipal history museum, housed in an early 20th-century mansion downtown, runs through the city's origins as a Portuguese-Azorean fishing village, the German immigration of the 19th century, and the development of the port. The collection is small but well presented in Portuguese (limited English signage).

Free entry, closed weekends. Worth half an hour for context before walking the riverfront and the older streets around the church.
