Danúbio Azul, on the waterfront near the Mercado do Café, is the long-standing favourite for barreado in Paranaguá. The stew arrives still bubbling in its sealed clay pot, ladled over rice and cassava flour with slices of banana. Order it with a cold draught beer and plan a long lunch.
The restaurant has been in operation for several decades and is unfussy: tile floors, plastic tablecloths, a view over the bay. The seafood side of the menu (fried fish, shrimp moqueca) is also reliable. Lunch only on most days.
