Paranaguá is a seafood town. The catch comes in to the waterfront most days — corvina, robalo, shrimp, oysters from the bay islands — and you will find it on every menu. The local speciality is barreado, a slow-cooked beef stew traditional to the Paraná coast, served with cassava flour, rice and slices of banana. It takes hours to prepare and is at its best in the simple family restaurants near the centre.
