Things to Do

Arica's compact centre can be covered in an afternoon — the Eiffel-built cathedral, the climb up the Morro, the seafront — but the real interest is the desert just outside town. The Azapa valley with its 7,000-year-old Chinchorro mummies is twelve kilometres east; the Lluta valley with its geoglyphs is twenty kilometres north; and the road to Putre and Parque Lauca climbs spectacularly toward the altiplano.
