This is not a kayak-hire shop, and whoever writes the Easter Island page should know that before linking it. The entire current offering is a seven-day American Canoe Association Level 3 or Level 4 sea-kayak certification course, run in August, using Rapa Nui's volcanic cliffs, live currents and shifting winds as the training ground. Nine hundred and ninety thousand pesos, or 1,100 US dollars.
What that buys is unusually well specified: the ACA certification itself, six nights at Camping Mihinoa, all kayaks and safety equipment, a park ticket, a full day with native guides, local transport, a cultural show, meals built around Rapa Nui cooking, and — for another hundred thousand — an ERF water-rescue first-aid certificate on top.
If you want an hour on the water in Hanga Roa harbour, this is not it. If you are a sea kayaker who wants a certification and the Pacific's most remote coastline to earn it on, it is extraordinary value.
