Plaza de Armas

The main square is the orientation point for the centre — the cathedral on one side, the Casa del Arte Diego Rivera on another, the regional government building on a third, and a low fountain in the middle. Tour-bus arrivals usually pause here before pushing on to Puerto Varas, so it can get busy at midday in summer.

The square comes alive in the early evening when locals arrive for the paseo — a slow loop of the plaza with friends, an ice cream, or a sopaipilla from one of the carts under the pine trees.
