Puerto Montt is primarily a transport hub, but a day spent walking the Costanera, eating curanto at Angelmo, and visiting the wooden cathedral on Plaza de Armas is well-spent. The real attractions sit just outside the city — Lago Llanquihue, Frutillar, the Osorno volcano, and the ferry south through the fjords.
